The exhibition dedicated to the Whale Giuliana is composed of four rooms. The first one is dedicated to the discovery of the fossil and the stages of the difficult recovery. After the excavation, completed in 2011, the remains of the animal were consolidated, fractioned into blocks, protected with plaster shirts, and placed inside custom-made wooden crates protected by expanded clay and polyurethane foam packaging. All the crates were transported to the Matera headquarters of the then Superintendence for Artistic and Historical Heritage of Basilicata, where they remained until 2013 when they were transferred to the National Archaeological Museum "D. Ridola" in Matera.
The Cartellone dell’Estate materana 2024 has started in recent days with the first musical events, organized by the Municipal Administration to enrich the program of summer events from June to the end of September.
